Day 60 - Rehabilitation

This was a big bust butt day again! We mostly cleaned and fed all over, just like previous days, but besides that I had my first relocation. There was a raccoon trapped in a normal box trap that needed a new home in the wild; since it was in someone's backyard. The other intern and I, after allllllllllllll the morning feedings, picked it up and drove it out into the woods. Secret location, shh!!

I got the chance to carry the trap and release it while the other intern recorded via camera. So yes, there's a video of the release floating around. When and if it becomes available I will snag it and post it up on here. If it doesn't become available well....sad day and sorry! In other words I hope it can be snagged.

Other things that happened is we got a bat, a baby raccoon, and two crows in. Something interesting - we think the crow population is being affected by West Nile Virus. All of a sudden we're getting crows almost every day which is not normal! They're smart birds who wouldn't become easily susceptible to car collisions, not being able to fly, etc. All crow hunters can agree on their wits, its why I love these birds! Hopefully the nile won't affect a ton of crows because I love these birds but I too have noticed these birds lying on the sides of roads....not very many but some. It's sad but also life. It comes in waves so crow populations will be fine but still!

There's a story with the raccoon that I do not wish to share here because it's a bit traumatizing.  If anyone wants to ask me about it in private though feel free too. It's just not something I want to post via public. For anyone that knows what it takes to check for rabies in raccoons; I did the dirty work associated with the process. For those of you who do not know what this means are interested feel free to ask through facebook or text. I will not respond what it means in comments below because that's still considered public.

Otherwise, despite these animals, nothing else really went on besides feeding and cleaning as previously said. I did get the chance to hang out with everyone at a Mexican place and afterwards in a group! It was a very very fun night and much needed to relieve stress!! I love these crazy interns here! Best group ever! Besides my friends at home of course ;)
