The first half of the day was spent mostly catching up on restocking, cleaning, and feeding. I chose to feed raccoons but still occasionally helped feed the baby red squirrels. Which reminds me, every time I said six baby Gray Squirrels...change that to 6 baby Red Squirrels. We re-evaluated everything and came to the conclusion that they are red squirrels instead of gray. They are now on a different sort of formula, which they seem to be taking very well, and hopefully will start to gain weight and grow up healthy and happy as ever.
The rest of the day was actually mainly feeding and cleaning. We did get in a black-capped chickadee that I took to Raptor Education Group Inc (REGI) and found out that I misidentified a woodpecker. It was a Hairy Woodpecker, not a Yellow-bellied Sapsucker. Kind of embarrassing but it's all a learning game! Would love to go watch fireworks tonight but ending at 9:30 has tuckered me out to the point I want to sleep. Almost fell asleep on the road, didn't realize how tired I was.
Upon returning from REGI I fed raccoons and then head upstairs. Snatched an adorable cupcake and now preparing for bed. I know this is short but as said all we did really was clean and feed. For specifics I fed mostly raccoons all did and occasionally helped feed baby red squirrels. Cleaning wise I did dishes, swept/mopped Raccoon Room, disinfected surfaces, helped take out compost, and practically did dishes again. I helped restock stuff when I could - such as making eggs for tomorrows morning crew and replacing paper towels. Overall though we tried to make the day short and easy since it's a holiday. I was originally supposed to be off tomorrow but I switched with another intern so she could go home early. So I will be on education instead!
